SAVORY KUGELHOF APPETIZER
Remove the rind from the bacon, blanch in boiling water for 3 minutes, drain on a paper towel and dice into very small strips. Brown the strips in a frying pan. In a large bowl, dissolve the baker╒s yeast in the water, add the flour, the salt, the egg and the sugar. Mix by hand or with a spatula, then knead by hand, beating it for about 15 minutes, until it no longer sticks to the bowl. Add the butter, cut into chunks, and knead some more, still beating. Add the bacon, knead into the dough, then cover the bowl with a cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hour minimum Take the dough out, knock-back and knead for another 5 minutes. Butter the tube pan, line the sides with chopped nuts and pour the dough. Place in a warm place and let the dough rise until doubled in volume. Preheat the oven for 15 minutes on 410 F and bake for approximately 45 minutes.

1 oz walnuts
1/3 cup butter
